August 2026 Patreon Roundup: Captive Hearts

Our first post this month covered New X-Men Annual 2001, by Grant Morrison and Leinil Francis Yu, in which the X-Men go to Hong Kong on the trail of an illegal organ smuggling ring headed by "U-Man" influencer John Sublime. There they meet Xorn, a mysterious mutant with a star for a brain, whose powers might pave the way for a better tomorrow -- depending who controls him.

This comic leads directly into the next issue of New X-Men, so be sure to check it out!

Next, we checked in with the X-Treme team in X-Treme X-Men #5 (Claremont and Larroca, of course.) They're still on the hunt for Destiny's Diaries, and have experienced a setback or two thanks to their foe Vargas, but now they've got more on their plate when Gambit is accused of a murder he almost certainly didn't commit.

Lastly, we're taking a detour from our coverage of the New Mutants to check out the first two parts of Storm & Illyana: Magik, expanding on the time Illyana spent as a captive in Limbo, returning to Earth several years older and, some would say, somewhat traumatized.

If any of this interests you, but you're not yet a member, you can join and get 50% off your first month by using promo code 1F1CF. This promotion will only last until August 27 so you'd better act quick!

Summer Break 2026!

 Hi all,

Just a quick note that I will be relaxing the post schedule for the next couple of weeks. We've got a new foster pup to take care of as well as a vacation that will take me away from writing for a while, so it will be good just to slow down and not worry about this site.

I will still be updating Patreon as much as I am able, intending to meet the minimum of 3 posts I promised every month. If you haven't signed up yet, you should!

Otherwise, watch the header above or our Bluesky account for news on upcoming posts.

Have a great summer,

Scotto

June 2026 Patreon Roundup: The Way to Rome

The Uncanny X-Cerpts Patreon continues to be a thing, as promised!

In June, we caught up with the X-Treme X-Men as they battled Vargas in Spain, leading to a moment made all the more shocking because of what was happening outside of comics.

I also continued my work recapping the New Mutants with the third part of their 1983 Yearbook. Thrill as the youngsters are caught up in Nova Roman political intrigue, and and are bedazzled the sorcery of Selene!

Then, we delved into the world of "What If," looking at what happened in a reality where Professor Xavier became the Juggernaut. With Kurt Busiek brainstorming ways Charles could use his power for evil, this is an interesting examination of the nature of power gone mad.

You can get all of the above with by supporting us with a monthly membership, or you can get them a la carte for only $3 apiece.

As if that weren't enough, I gave a special free article where I run down ten plotlines from the 90s that I thought could have turned out a lot better than they did. If it sounds like just an excuse to complain, it's really only kind of that as I lament missed potential in stories that started from intriguing premises.

The O5 Reunite! To... fight birds.

When I launched this Patreon, I pledged to keep it in operation with at least 3 posts per month from March until June, as a trial. And it's true that it hasn't done blockbuster numbers. But I'm not ready to shut it down yet. I'm having a lot of fun diving deep into random corners of X-history that were excluded from the original blog and I want to keep going, at least a little while longer.

I hope you'll join me there, either to read coverage of random mutant stories we cover, or to show your support for this long-running endeavor of mine.

May 2026 Patreon Roundup: X-Treme Introductions

We began them month with a look at what became of Alex Summers after the his apparent death in X-Factor, a visit to the Darkest Timeline of Mutant X, where seemingly every bad outcome for every X-Men story happened!

Next, we began our coverage of X-Treme X-Men, starring Storm, Rogue, Bishop, Sage, Psylocke and Thunderbird as they search for Destiny's Diaries. Salvador Larroca provides gorgeously-rendered comic action over Chris Claremont's throwback-style adventure.

Lastly, we took a trip back to the early days of the All New X-Men as Jean takes Storm on a trip into the city and the two bond in a moment we nevergot to see between the original issues with a backup story from Classic X-Men #2.

You get access to posts like these every month when you join the Uncanny X-Cerpts Patreon! Don't miss out!

Patreon Roundup: April 2026

Every month I write three exclusive posts for our Patreon supporters that cover the expansive world of the X-Men and beyond. The more members we get, the more posts I'll do!

This month was all about the New Mutants, as I posted the first two editions of New Mutants Yearbook, a quick survey of the young generation of students' adventures starting in 1983. In the first part, they uncover a secret threat to Stevie Hunter and learn a very special lesson about abuse. In the second, they experience their first true loss, then find themselves in Rio rescuing Sunspot's mom from the Hellfire Club! Along the way they battle Sentinels, the Brood, and team up with Team America, everyone's favourite stunt-riding superheroes (who are not Ghost Rider, I guess.)

Also, we looked back at the first time the X-Men crossed paths with one of the Avengers in 1963's Tales of Suspense #49.

What will we be looking at next month? Join today and find out!
